Scuba Diving Insurance

One of the best sources of scuba diving insurance is the Divers Alert Network (DAN).  We’ll describe the services DAN offers and how you can maximize your scuba protection through them.  There are other scuba coverage providers, but DAN is one of the oldest and largest scuba insurers and offers many additional options for its members.

Yes, that’s right: you must become a DAN member to be able to get scuba insurance through them.  While that may sound a little restrictive, there are good reasons for DAN to require membership before extending the promise of diving coverage.  First, DAN is a non-profit medical research organization, so the only way it can survive is through voluntary contributions by its members and generous donors.  Second, by encouraging closer association between its diving members, DAN is able to provide better diving insurance products and work more effectively to meet its members’ needs.

By becoming a DAN scuba member, you get automatic coverage in its TravelAssist insurance program, a global network that works to teach diving safety and prevent scuba injuries.

It costs about $30 annually for an individual DAN membership.  If there are multiple scuba divers in your family, you can all sign up together for $44 a year.

DAN’s goal is not only to reimburse you for any losses or injuries you may suffer while scuba diving, but also to train you on how to avoid accidents in the first place.
